Digital Storytelling in Education

Digital storytelling can be described as the utilization of technology to tell a story through a variety of media, such as pictures, music, and videos. Digital storytelling has many different uses in the classroom, for both the teacher and the student. Ultimately, it can be used to greatly enhance the material being presented by the educator. As a teacher, digital storytelling can be used to complement a lesson. Educators may implement it into their lesson to promote discussion and to increase understanding. Students may use digital storytelling to better understand the contents being taught. They might also share their ideas and explanations with their fellow classmates. In turn, this could increase the entire class's overall understanding of the material.

In order to complete this project, I used an online tool called PhotoPeach. Here, individuals can create a free account, through which they can create and save digital stories. This website allows its users to create slideshows and customize them with features such as music and captions. Quizzes can also be implemented into the slideshow. If you are interested in learning more or in creating your own account, click here.

Below, you will find my own example of digital storytelling. I created this using PhotoPeach, described above. This could be used as an introduction video to my class. I included the following:
- An introduction
- A description of biology and what we will be learning
- Classroom rules and expectations
- Required materials
- My contact information
It briefly describes what the students can expect for the year and what is expected out of them.

Welcome to Biology! on PhotoPeach
